Will Bashkortostan become a development center for horse breeding in Russia? – RealnoeVremya.com
The republic summarized the results of the third season of the Terra Bashkiria equestrian tournament and discussed its prospects
The unique amateur jockeys championship was held in Bashkortostan for the third year. We are talking about the Terra Bashkiria Equestrian Tournament, the third season of which recently ended in Ufa. Jockeys from the municipal districts of the republic took part and played exclusively on horses of the Bashkir breed. What has changed in three seasons and whether it was possible to give impetus to the development of horse breeding in Bashkortostan – read in the material from Realnoe Vremya.
Three seasons – three young champions
This year, the tournament took place in 10 qualifying phases and a final. Amateur jockeys from four or five different districts competed in each of the preliminary competitions. During the stage, the champion of each of the participating districts was first determined – the riders played on horses which they brought with them. Then, the two best representatives of each of the districts went to the final, where the best jockey of the stage was determined in two races on the bachkir horses of the hippodrome. Based on the results of all stages, 10 participants of the superfinal have been determined.
The young people of the tournament regularly gain experience. In the 2021 season, Ruslan Gareev, a thirteen-year-old schoolboy from the Alsheyevsky district, won. By the way, in recent years very young participants have also achieved victories. In 2019, Denis Kurbanaev from the Kugarchinsky district did not have a match, at that time he was also 13 years old, and in 2020, fifteen-year-old Aygul Muratova from the Chishminsky district became the champion of the superfinal. This season she has already tried to challenge professional jockeys and participated in thoroughbred horse racing.
The project was originally conceived as a television project
From the first season, the Terra Bashkiria tournament was broadcast live on several television channels and on social networks. It stood out from other events on the Akbuzat racecourse with a lot of media attention, and with it popularity came. For the first time in a long time, tournaments were sold out, at least until the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Not only horse races on Bashkir horses were broadcast on television. Between the performances of the districts, nominal and traditional prizes were played in trotting races and horse races on thoroughbred English horses.
“The price of a Bashkir horse has increased”
Besides determining the best amateur jockeys, another task set by the organizers was to stimulate the districts to develop equestrian sports and to breed Bashkir horses.
“Many districts began to pay more attention to these issues, the work began to be carried out more clearly and centrally in farms and studs engaged in the breeding of Bashkir horses, we have defined vectors for the continuation of the work “, declared the person in charge of the competence center for horse breeding and equestrian sports Akbuzat.
The Bashkir breed in the regions of the republic was often kept exclusively as effective – for milk and meat. With the start of the tournament, the districts needed to select the most capable horses for the races. In addition, one of the requirements of the organizers is that the horse be of the Bachkire breed, without improvements by crossing, to which the owners often resorted for the victories of the district sabantuys. If during the first season horses of improved local breeds were allowed to run, only riders of Bashkir horses were allowed to compete in subsequent ones.
The tournament successfully fulfills the task of preserving and popularizing the Bashkir horse breed, the chairman of the executive committee of the World Qoroltai of the Bashkirs (VKB) Galim Yakupov is sure:
“Teams have appeared in the neighborhoods. Previously, districts hired jockeys in various other locations. Now it’s a matter of honor to ride for your district. There are many farmers who have become breeders of the Bashkir horse breed, there are active buying and selling of them.
More closed prices are needed
However, there are still unresolved issues. From next season, it was planned to introduce passports for all Bashkir horses that would be allowed to participate in the tournament. However, apparently the new introduction has been postponed.
“Maybe it will be implemented, but not completely, the situation that is developing with the coronavirus in the economy is not very favorable. I understand that it is very difficult for horse owners to work directly on the ground. Maybe we’ll give some relaxation in that regard. Many people have already brought the necessary documents into conformity, ”revealed Damir Iseev.
According to Ilshat Makhmutov, one of the problems is the lack of specialists in the Bashkir breed who are able to qualitatively assess horses in the districts. Speaking of the difficulties faced by owners and trainers of trotters, as well as riders, Ilshat Makhmutov notes the insufficient number of closed prices for horses of trotter breeds born in Bashkortostan:
“For the third year, we say we need to do more closed prices in order to increase the number of cattle. These prizes must be more numerous and with a good sum of money. After all, horses born in Bashkortostan cannot compete with local or imported Americans. Many private owners in the republic cannot afford to buy a Lokot horse, and they can buy a Ufa horse, young animals. But in order to do this, they must know that they will be running in closed prices in Akbuzat. More closed and for the thoroughbred, born in Bashkiria, for the trotters, for the Orels.
Among other problems, they cite the high cost of keeping horses at the racetrack and the lack of staff. One of the runners declared anonymously that the proposed salaries do not make it possible to invite and retain qualified employees: “If we are talking about trotters at the racetrack, there are still fans of their profession. There aren’t enough people, who would accept a salary of 20,000 rubles in Ufa? If our runner has an offer from another city, not even from Moscow, but also from the province, he goes there thanks to the best conditions. In recent years, thanks to Terra, we have at least some prizes in the races. Before that, there were only points. I hope the situation will continue to improve. “
It is not yet known when the fourth season of the amateur jockeys championship will start. Apparently, the exact start date of the 2022 tournament will be determined in the winter.
