Victory of Cephale De Ghazal of Al Shaqab in Spain
Horses owned by Qatar have an impressive success rate on the magnificent Spanish racecourse of San Sebastian. On Sunday, Al Shaqab Racing filly Cephale De Ghazal improved it even further when she claimed a second victory in the Wathba Stallions Cup, a condition race for Arab thoroughbred fillies over ten stages.
Ridden by Alexandre Gavilan, Cephale De Ghazal continued the very nervous Havane De L’ardus, which set the pace and was very green throughout the race. In the straight line, Céphale De Ghazal proved too strong and won the race even though she had to battle with Fowairet, another filly from Al Shaqab Racing, who finished second under Julien Grosjean for trainer Charles Gourdain .
Trained by Elisabeth Bernard, Céphale De Ghazal started her career with a victory in December on the all-weather track in Pau. For her second participation, she finished sixth at the Sheikh Mansoor Festival – Prix Nefta (Group 2 PA).
Cephale De Ghazal was bred by Jean Cambon and his daughter Rose at Haras de Ghazal in the South West of France. His dam Chamade De Ghazal is a Group 3 PA winning daughter of the main broodmare stallion Dormane. She also produced Chaval De Ghazal, winner of a claimable race in Qatar. Cephale De Ghazal is one of the most beautiful French maternal lines, its ancestor being the famous Nevada II.
