Jockey Oliver Peslier poses with Samlla after the victory.

The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) sponsored by the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) Group 2 Coupe De France Des Chevaux Arabes was won by Samlla (FR) (Assy x Djakera des Forges) at Chantilly yesterday.
Wearing the colors of His Royal Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, who also bred the colt, and coached by François Rohaut, Samlla kept his record of 100% wins by winning the Group 2 competition for his second outing only. .
Pulled off in stall 9, Samlla was initially taken over by jockey Oliver Peslier and moved to the back of the peloton.
On his way home, Assy’s son began to approach the leaders with a steep descent down the ramp. Samlla was then swapped around the horses 300m from her home and joined and passed Al Shaqab Racing’s possible second local horse, Al Wakrah (FR) (TM Fred Texas x Majida), to win with a line length.
The dolphin is trained by Thomas Fourcy and was helmed by Jérôme Cabre. After finishing last at the top of the straight line, Hakeem (FR) of Al Asayl France (Sir Bani Yas x Elmalak Elwaheed) ran strongly away to grab third place an extra length of the trainer and winner jockey Valentin Seguy.
“It’s really great”, declared François Rohaut after the race, “They are two very good colts, very promising. Both enjoyed a good run throughout the race which made the difference and they will surely face each other again. It’s exciting and I’m very happy to have two horses of such quality. ”
“There is a good program for this type of horse and it shouldn’t be difficult to place them in the future. Samlla is the first Group winner for his father Assy and Hakeem gives his father Sir Bani Yas a first black type result.
Samlla was bred by Haras Al Shahania of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, who is also her sire, the double winner of Group 1 Assy. He is the first foal registered for his dam, Djakera Des Forges, who descends from the purebred French Arab matriarch Djebella II.
