The recently reopened Westbrook Library is set to be transformed into a “fun palace” next month as part of an annual celebration aimed at putting culture at the heart of the community.

The annual event sees buildings and organizations transformed into ‘fun palaces’ for the day, with many different free activities offered by locals, for locals.

From crafts to sports, from music to digital – a multitude of different topics and interests will be celebrated and presented on Saturday 2 October.

Previous Palace fun events have taken place at Padgate Library and Warrington Museum and Library.

This will be the first time the Westbrook Library has hosted a fun palace celebration and is a fitting way to mark the reopening of the library on September 6 for the first time since the start of the Covid pandemic.

The event will also kick off the annual National Library Week – which runs October 4-11 – which is a celebration of all that libraries can offer the community.

LiveWire’s team of community librarians are currently developing a week-long activity plan that will be shared later.

Wendy Molyneux, Strategic Library Manager for LiveWire, said: “We are really excited to turn Westbrook Library into a fun palace next month.

“We look forward to welcoming the local community for a day of free and family activities.

“A fun palace is a fantastic way for people to share their skills, interests and hobbies while letting others ‘try’.

“So whether it’s arts, science, crafts, technology, digital, heritage or sports, we are looking for people to get involved and offer to be a ‘creator’ during a few hours.

“You don’t have to be perfect at what you do – we just need your enthusiasm to share whatever interests you. Do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to participate. ”

If you have an idea of how you can get involved or would like to learn more, please email Wendy at [email protected]
