Recorder: irrelevant as a father
Montfort and Préaux
By Kitty Trice
Recorder, the Queen’s stallion and promising for the first season of Montfort et Preaux, received his first winner when Hot Queen struck at Lyon-Parilly on Monday.
Galileo and Cherry Hinton Stakes winner’s son Memory ran into the royal silks three times before being pulled out with an injury before a tilt at the Phoenix Stakes.
He finished third in his Newbury debut before losing his first seven-stadium tag at Newmarket – beating Group 1 winner Ventura Storm in the process – then clinching Group 3 honors in the Acomb Stakes in York in 2015.
The first foal to mare Danehill Dancer Memory, Recorder is a full brother to Queen’s Grade 2 winner Belmont Gold Cup Call To Mind and a three-part brother to Learn By Heart, a son of Frankel who hit in Group 3 Stockholms Stora Taken at Bro Park in Sweden.
Hot Queen had been placed in her last two starts and is descended from the mare Lomitas Hot Fudge, the dam of four previous winners.
Trained by Pia Brandt, the filly came home three lengths ahead of Al Wukair Alromy’s filly, with another two and a half lengths back to Perle Rouge, a daughter of her first season compatriot Zelzal.

Recorder wins the 2015 Acomb Stakes in York
Haras de Montfort et Preaux manager Mathieu Alex said at the time: “This son of champion Galileo has everything he needs to succeed at stud.
“Very precocious, he was one of England’s best two-year-olds, notably finishing ahead of Cymric by four and a quarter lengths in the Acomb Stakes. His coach, William Haggas, was convinced he had potential and turned to the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes.
“Very well bred, Recorder has two of the bloodlines that have contributed to Coolmore’s success: Galileo and Danehill Dancer. As soon as we saw Recorder at the Royal Studs, we were convinced by his physique.
“He is a magnificent horse, powerful, very elegant and a great engine. We are really delighted to be a Recorder standing and we would like to invite all the breeders to come and visit us at the stud to see him.”
Recorder held the 2021 breeding season for an amount of € 4,000.
