New York will continue to lead in reproductive rights
Once again, it’s time for New York State to rise to the occasion. As Americans await the United States Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, we must recognize that the Empire State has been at the forefront of a half-century battle to secure reproductive freedom. New York is steeped in a history of firsts.
In 1970, three years before Roe, we were one of the first states to allow abortions. Some Americans traveled 500 miles to perform the procedure, instead of having to risk their lives in clandestine operations. Now we may have to do it again.
