Midnight Stroll Best Shotgun Hottie in Delaware Oaks
midnight ride nlanded his first ranked stakes on July 2 in the Delaware Oaks (G3) of $295,000 at Delaware Parkholding 5-2 favorite Shotgun hottie by a head.
Out of the gate effortlessly, the 3-year-old filly settled into the middle of the seven-horse field and hunted down the early leaders Chardonnay and Pure in fifth. Making her move at the three-quarter mark, she rocketed forward before Shotgun Hottie did. Popping up from the outside to challenge the leader, Shotgun Hottie squeezed the winner’s margin but couldn’t reach the finish line in time.
The second finishes four lengths ahead of Morning Matcha third.
After running out of pace behind fractions of :23.10, :46.69, 1:11.13, Midnight Stroll completed the 1 1/16 mile distance in 1:44.31 under Eric Cancel on a track fast earth.
“I was very confident about her chances today because I worked her last time and she worked really well,” Cancel said. “Her two best races had been in the lead and today there was a bit more speed but I’m glad I was able to blow her away because I got to know her a bit better and I did a great trip with her.”

Formed by John Terranova, Midnight Stroll paid $7.20 on a winning $2 ticket and increased their winnings to $263,225.
The Delaware Oaks were the filly’s sixth start and third win. She scored her first victory in February in a special debut weight at Tampa Bay Downs and followed that win with a win in the March 27 Stonehedge Farm South Sophomore Fillies Stakes at the Florida track.
Last outing, the daughter of Not this time finished ninth in the George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (G2) at Pimlico Racecourse.
Owned by Gatsas Stables, RA Hill Stable and Steven Schoenfeld, Midnight Stroll fell short of its reserve on its first trip to the sales pitch at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company Winter 2020 Mixed Sale . She then sold at the October sale of the business, bought by agent Tonja Terranova for $225,000 from Abbie Road Farm’s consignment.
Raised in Florida by Dr. Carolin Von Rosenberg, Midnight Stroll is out of the midnight lute Mare midnight magic , which has two winners out of two holders. The mother has a 2 year old Prank call filly named Atthecrossroads who was a $230,000 purchase by Breeze Easy from the Baccari Bloodstock consignment at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Select Yearling sale, and a yearling Prank call foal. She also has a 2022 Mitole foal.

The Main Event takes center stage in Kent
Giving Cancel his second straight Stakes victory Saturday at Delaware was Main event who showed mastery on the grass to win the $200,250 Kent Stakes (G3T).

The Main Event went straight to the front of the seven-horse field to edge out Xy time and irish uncle . Setting the pace as it went, the 3-year-old colt withstood the pressure from his rivals and held on to the lead. Going into the stretch, he ran for the rail and opened up, which would fend off a late offer from second. Elizar .
“I had a dream trip. I wanted to be placed in front with this horse because his best races were in the lead or very close. I knew there was a lot of speed in the race, but I knew that my horse was very ready so I brought him to them early,” said Cancel.
“If they were going to beat me, they should have beat me running. Once I started to do the three-eights turn, I felt I still had plenty of horsepower, so I left it leaving to make him more comfortable. the quarter pole, he kind of held steady like he was waiting for horses, so I just tried to give him a very confident ride until the end.”
The Main Event wins the Kent Stakes at Delaware Park
With fractions of: 23.65, 47.12, 1:11.05 and 1:36.23, the Main Event crossed the wire in 1:48.74 on a 1 1/8 mile firm turf course for owner Harrel Ventures.
Elizar was second and Tommy Bee came third.
The Main Event paid $10.60 to win and increased its winnings to $246,333.
Trained by George Weaver, the colt found success early in Gulfstream Park this season, breaking his maiden in January and second in his next start in the Palm Beach Stakes on March 5. The colt won his next outing in the April 2 Cutler Bay Stakes. Entering a graduated-stakes society, the colt’s latest start ended with a ninth-place finish in the May 7 American Turf Stakes presented by BMW (G2T) at Churchill Falls.
The son of Bernardini was a $50,000 yearling who went to Cromwell Bloodstock of the Threave Main Stud consignment at the September 2020 yearling sale at Keeneland. He was resold at Ocala Breeders’ Spring 2021 Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training for $130,000 to Ocala Stud consignment agent Steven Young.
