The sale, which has hatched Group 1 winners like Montefilia, Freak, Gytrashand Sopressaoffers an opportunity for buyers of varying budgets to tap into some of Australia’s finest thoroughbred horsemeat, especially those who may have found sky-high prices for yearlings so far this year beyond their reach.

It has also proved a boon for pinhookers, with last year’s auction leading to a host of lucrative turnovers topped by the AU$360,000 to AU$900,000 (US$678,970) result. for the Zustar –Vergara colt sold via Newhaven Park Draft at Easter this year.

With its catalog now online, the June 9 and 10 sale features foals weaned by 112 different bulls.

“This year’s catalog has all the right ingredients for buyers to experience success, whatever their end goal,” said James Price, Inglis’ Victorian blood stock manager.

“There is an insatiable appetite for quality stock, and to that end I think there is plenty to excite buyers in the catalogue, particularly among weanlings, with the catalog featuring the only weanling colt Snitzel to be offered at public auction this year.

“There have been some fantastic stories from the sale over the past few years and some life-changing results, so we look forward to another competitive renewal of the sale.”

Broodmare buyers are expected to engage in a fierce competition to obtain Irish-bred Marjolaine, who bears her first foal after mating in the south with Kingman, sire of the champion Palace Pier and the three-time Group 1 winner Persian king among many others.

“The Great Southern Sale has been a fantastic opportunity, especially for end users to come and buy weaning at what we call affordable,” Price said. “As we look at pinhookers who want a financial return, in terms of actual racehorses that have come off the market, there’s been a lot of high quality, with the likes of Montefilia, Behemoth, Extra Brutetc.”

Foals weaned from the sale will go under the hammer on Day 1, Thursday, June 9, and Day 2, after which broodmares will be sold.

All weaned foals sold at Great Southern are eligible for the $7.55 million Inglis Race Series, which includes the $2 million Inglis Millennium for 2-year-olds and the new $1 million pink bonus program of dollars. Additional entries for the Great Southern Sale will be accepted until 5 p.m. on June 1.
