A latest generation colt of recently retired champion sire Not a Single Doubt stole the show on day two of the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale when he sold for $1.7million Australians this afternoon.

The first colt of Gr3 winner and Oaks setter Miss Admiration, the colt was donated by Segenhoe Stud and after a heated bidding battle, it was Ciaron Maher who snatched the top seller.

“I’m pretty excited to have him,” Maher said moments after the hammer blow. “Obviously they don’t have a single doubt anymore with his retirement (from stud).”

“We have had so much success with this breed. Considering last year and the results, I knew he was going to be a big prize. He was going to be a colt that was on everyone’s list and I’m thrilled to be able to have him.

“She (Miss Admiration) was a quality mare – a beautiful young mare. And the colt is just great physique, good temperament – he ticks all the boxes.

“He’s real stallion potential,” added Maher.

The AU$1.7million colt was one of four individual lots to sell for prices above AU$1million on another record selling day on the Gold Coast.

Later in the afternoon, Melbourne bloodstock leading agent Sheamus Mills went for A$1.55million to secure the filly I Am Invincible from Najoom. The filly is a full sister to group winner Najmaty and was sold by breeder Emirates Park.

“You come into these (fillies) like an eight or ten year project,” Mills noted. “You’re hoping they’re really fast and if they’re not, you’re looking at getting your money back in the sales ring.”

“The families that I Am Invincible has been covering for the past few years – those are the families that everyone wants to buy into and that’s why they’re making these prices.”

Mills said no decision has yet been made on who will train the prized filly.

“Hopefully she’s a Magic Millions type filly. We’ll have plenty of stables wanting to take her.

The third best seller of the day was Sledmere Stud’s colt Zoustar-Pirapala who was dumped at the Victorian Alliance in conjunction with Rosemont Stud, Suman Hedge and David Redvers Bloodstock.

“He’s a heartbreaking colt,” said Anthony Mithen. “He was really, really high on our shortlist.”

“We’ve had success with Zoustar before with the Victorian Alliance. He is a horse that can have a precocious two-year-old.

Mithen said Peter Moody will train the colt – following the proven formula of Group Three winner Maribyrnong Plate Brereton – a yearling colt purchased by Magic Millions by Zoustar.

The fourth million dollar batch of the day arrived earlier today when Sydney-based blood agent James Harron went to A$1.1 million to secure colt I Am Invincible- Meliora from the Yarraman Park Stud Draft.

The colt is a full brother of the former explosive and exciting young Victorian stallion I Am Immortal.

“He’s got a nice fast pedigree,” Harron pointed out. “Obviously the mare has done it with I Am Invincible and after looking at her stock over the last few years I thought he was probably the best she’s thrown.”

“He had a great attitude throughout the sale and he looks like a very precocious type of horse that we think can get up and run early.”

Two days after the sale, the gross soared to over A$97 million and the average soared to over A$287,000. The customs clearance rate stands at an extraordinary 94%.

“It’s been an exceptional market so far,” said Barry Bowditch, Managing Director of Magic Millions. “We were up over A$10m from the same period last year and that was an all-time high.”

“The average price is over AU$287,000 – we’re talking big, big numbers. The industry is in great shape right now and the Magic Millions brand just keeps going from strength to strength.

“We are delighted with how things are going and there are still plenty of horsepower to ride with so many opportunities for buyers over the next few days,” Bowditch added.
