The Section of Nutrition Research, in collaboration with the Nutrition Society, will host the Nutrition Futures Conference, September 7-8, 2021.

the Conference on the future of nutrition, taking place at the Cavendish Conference Center in central London, is a student-centric conference, showcasing the best in student-led nutrition research and empowering undergraduates and postgraduates in related fields to diet, nutrition and dietetics as it relates to career building.

The conference will be the first conference organized by the Nutrition Research Section of the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction, newly established in 2019, and the award for hosting the event reflects the external recognition of research programs and d Imperial Oil’s world-class nutrition education. .

Imperial’s Nutrition Research Section is honored to host such an event, which reflects Imperials’ position in nutrition research and education. Professor Gary Frost Head of nutrition research and chair in nutrition and dietetics

The conference will see national and international attendees come together in person and online for two days of lectures, research presentations, networking, social events and workshops. The main topics that will be discussed include nutrition and COVID, sports nutrition, management of diet and food choices, and cellular nutrition and metabolism. Imperial Oil Professor Gary Frost and Dr Aaron Lett will speak at the conference, alongside several other keynote speakers.

Along with the main lectures, there will be research lectures and poster presentations by participants covering a wide range of nutrition research. Workshops include science communication, public speaking and publishing. There will also be an exciting career panel with representatives from healthcare, industry, animal nutrition, science communication and academia, providing a fantastic opportunity for participants to improve their skills and plan. their career.

Commenting on the event, Dr. Aaron M. Lett, Lecturer for MRes Clinical Research, said: “We look forward to sharing Imperial’s strong ethic for student development and science education. of nutrition on this national stage. “

As a student-centric conference, the students of the Nutrition Research Section had a unique opportunity to participate in planning a scientific conference at an early stage in their research career. The ethics of the student-centered conference aligns strongly with Imperial’s goal of developing the next generation of scientists and researchers in the field of nutritional science, which it delivers primarily through the through its doctoral and clinical research programs MRes (human nutrition). The conference will provide an excellent opportunity and a platform for students from Imperial Oil and other institutions to present their research, as well as to network and plan the next steps in their careers.

Speaking of collaboration, the CEO of The nutrition company, Mark Hollingsworth, said: “I visited Imperial College’s Nutrition Research Department for the first time in 2019, and I was immediately struck by the enthusiasm of not only students but also faculty members for the subject. they chose. I came out in awe of the caliber of the students I encountered, so I was not surprised when the Nutrition Society’s Scientific Committee later selected the College as the host for the NS Futures 2021 conference. Due to restrictions COVID-related, the conference had to be moved from the Imperial to a commercial conference center, but Imperial students will still lead the planning and logistics. : “

Speaking about the importance of the conference, Mark continued, “When I helped establish Nutrition Futures in 2016, the initial intention was not just to provide a world-class platform for students to present their research. and discovering many aspects of career planning to help in their future, it was also about providing an environment where students acquire essential transferable skills by having to lead, plan and organize a conference on their own. I look forward to NS Futures in September – this will be the first hybrid conference for the Nutrition Society and a welcome return to face-to-face events. I know the Imperial team, supported by the Nutrition Society events staff and the Society’s student section, will make the conference a great success.
