Independent research group OCTA said on Saturday January 1 that the number of reproductions in the National Capital Region (NCR) had risen to 4.05.

OCTA researcher Dr Guido David said in a tweet that this was the highest level since April 2020, which marked the start of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Saturday’s NCR case count, which is 2,530 recorded by the Department of Health (DOH), is the highest since October 10, 2021.

“In one week, the 7-day average of new cases rose from 90 to 962 (Dec. 26 to Jan. 1), an increase of 969%,” David said.

Meanwhile, he also mentioned that the drop in test output would likely cause the NCR numbers from Jan. 2-3 to drop below 2,000.
