Hat-trick for coach al-Attiyah as AJS Sedan triumph
Coach Mohamed Hamad Khalifa al-Attiyah and Al Jeryan Stud scored a hat-trick of wins on Thursday as Qatar’s AJS Sedan clinched the Al Jumail Cup in the 12th Al Uqda meeting of Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club at the Al Uqda Racecourse.
The Local Purebred Arabian Plate (Fillies & Mares only) race for the Al Jumail Cup over 1400m on turf had a nice contest but the jockey Sczepan Mazur got the AJS Berline halfway up and overtook the others towards the marker of 400m to remain stable until the finish to clinch a victory at one and three-four lengths.
The triumph also gave trainer al-Attiyah a third consecutive victory in the final three races of the day with his other horses – Latamah and Hajaj winning the local thoroughbred conditions and the thoroughbred handicap (class 3).
For Mazur, it was a quick double after riding Latamah to win. QREC Racing director Abdulla Rashid al-Kubaisi paid tribute to the Al Jumail Cup winners.
Earlier, the penultimate race saw Al Jeryan Stud’s Latamah win by a length and three-quarters under Mazur in local thoroughbred conditions for the over threes over 1400m.
The fourth race of the day – for Thoroughbred Handicap over three years over 1400m – was won by Hajaj of the Al Jeryan Stud.
The horse trained by Mohamed Hamad Khalifa al-Attiyah was saddled for a comfortable victory by three quarter lengths by jockey Alberto Sanna. Injaaz Stud’s Tembel De Pine also did better on Thursday winning the 1400m turf race for Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate (four-six).
The five-year-old horse trained by Mohamed Ghazali was ridden at neck length by jockey Marco Casamento. Shortly after, it was another quick double for Injaaz Stud and jockey Marco Casamento in the third race on the card, Julian Smart-bred Hadjira De Flauzins remained valiant to win the 1400m Purebred Arabian Handicap (0- 85) by a length of the neck.
The trainer-jockey duo of Zuhair Mohsen and Soufiane Saadi picked up where they left off yesterday by teaming up with Al Ghariya Racing’s Ponderosa to win the opening race of the Al Jumail Cup Day, the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate of 2100 m half.
