Aclaim’s smart daughter Cachet was rightly rewarded for her consistency with a maiden group success in the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket on Tuesday, handing her sire Aclaim his first black guy winner in the process.
Cachet, trained by George Boughey, is from the first generation of Prix de la Forêt winner Aclaim, and also claimed his first triumph as a stallion on the track last May as he pulled away from his rivals from five and a half lengths of the Rowley Mile.
The three-year-old horse was bred by Hyde Park Stud and was a timely reminder of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up sale which was to follow after the race, having sold to agency Highclere for 60,000gns in the sale to auctions last year.
Cachet was also presented at the 2020 Tattersalls Ascot yearling sale but was bought out by Hyde Park after reaching a bid of 14,000 gns.
She is the third foal of Poyle Sophie, a placed daughter of Teofilo who is a half-sister to four winners including the useful multiple goalscorer Poyle Thomas. Poyle Sophie is in turn out of an Inchinor-winning half-sister to Lowther Stakes winner Jemima, who scored in six-stage Group 2 for Tim Easterby in 1999.

Boughey told Racing TV: “I kept saying at the end of last year that she was slightly weak and she did incredibly well this winter. She went to Haras National and took a real break.
“She came back from Del Mar and had ten days on the rollator and hasn’t missed a day since then until now, which is a huge attribute for her.
“We were able to get the job done when we wanted to and, while she was on form today, she will step forward again.”
He added: “She’s obviously a top class filly and we’ll be back here for the Guineas and we’ll give it a good try. The mile is the question mark, but she loves the track here, which is a huge string to her bow.”
Aclaim made a promising debut as a stallion after retiring from a successful career which also saw him clinch the Park Stakes and Challenge Stakes as well as finishing second to Brando in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest.
The son of Acclamation held his first season for £12,500 at the National Stud and is now responsible for many winners from his first crop, including Premio Dormello second Jacinda and ranked performers Woman Of Ciprea and Beautiful Black.

Cachet herself was very tried during her youth career, winning her debut before finishing fifth in the Albany Stakes and placing third in the Empress Fillies’ Stakes and Pat Eddery Stakes.
The filly also finished a length and a half of a second in the Rockfel Stakes and finished third behind unbeaten Qipco 1000 Guineas favorite Inspiral in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket.
Aclaim, who is now £6,000 alongside fellow countryman Time Test, has bred over 400 mares in his first four books.
Reported provided Nell Gwyn runner-up Almohandesah, who becomes the Dalham Hall Stud bull’s first black-type performer, while Rockfel Stakes winner Hello You, a daughter of Invincible Spirit, finished third.
