Increased demand for places in the Goffs 2022 February sale has seen the company extend the event to three days, starting at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
The sale, which offers something for everyone with flat and national hunting elements, includes horses in training, young stock, weanlings, fillies and mares.
By far the most important section is that of weaners, for which 300 flat and national hunting youngsters have been cataloged and spread over a day and a half.
One breeder who is both looking forward and looking forward to Tuesday’s session is John Kehoe, who offers a beautifully bred colt of the second generation of 2,000 Guineas hero Saxon Warrior.
Lot 188 is the third foal out of Pour Deux, a Dansili half-sister to last season’s Prix des Chênes winner Ancient Rome, who was placed in both the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère and the Criterium International for Andre Fabre, and in Group 3 Naas Juvenile Sprint Stakes winner Etoile.
Their dam Gagnoa was a two-time Group 3 winner and placed in the Prix de Diane, Prix Saint-Alary and Irish Oaks. She is also a Sadler’s Wells half-sister to Derby winner Pour Moi.
“The mare has a beautiful page,” said Kehoe of Pour Deux, one of the two mares he is bred from. “By all accounts, this colt is very sweet; everyone who looks at him tells me so, so hopefully buyers will think that of Goffs this week.”

Kehoe purchased Pour Deux through Richard Knight at Goffs November 2016 Breeding Sale, where she was introduced by her trainer John Oxx. Successful as a three-year-old Naas maiden, Pour Deux finished fourth in the Listed Cooley Fillies Stakes and Kehoe bought her at the end of her four-year-old season.
Her first foal is a three-year-old Australian colt named Najem Shalghoda, who was bought as a yearling by Zied Romdhane and is in training in France. She has a two-year-old Mastercraftsman filly and is due to visit No Nay Never this spring.
“I picked the Mastercraftsman filly because I really like the pedigree and wanted to have a filly that could hopefully go on and be successful on the track and then I could continue the line,” Kehoe explained.
“The fact that she’s a Mastercraftsman daughter was a big influence in that decision because I think he could be a great broodmare.”
This filly is in pre-training at Mick Murphy and Sarah O’Connell’s Longways Stables and Kehoe plans to send her to Joseph O’Brien, who trained his mare Dark Angel Annie B to win at three. Annie B, named for Kehoe’s mother, is booked to visit Gleneagles this year.
Kehoe is excited about what’s to come in the family, with Ancient Rome potentially making the Group 1 breakthrough this year and their first crop half-sister to undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify should hopefully make her debut during the season.
Gagnoa also has a yearling filly by Justify and her half-sister White Hot is the dam of Bobby Flay’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Pizza Bianca.
The Aherne family, breeders of 2,000 Irish guineas and winner of the Prix Jacques le Marois Romanised, entrust the colt Saxon Warrior to Kehoe and he is the only offer from their Prospect stables.

Other youngsters to watch include Railstown Stud half-brother to Matron Stakes winner Champers Elysées (118). The colt born in February is a son of Cotai Glory, who was the best European stallion in the first season by the winners last year.
Another weanling colt with an eye-catching pedigree is the first generation Coolagown Stud filly of Royal Ascot winner and several Group 1 placed sprinters Soldier’s Call (221).
For those with their eyes set on the long term, she makes perfect sense as a broodmare prospect as she is a half-sister to the dam of Perfect Power, who won the Prix Morny and the Middle Park Stakes the last season.
His second dam Saga D’Ouilly is a Linamix sister to Arc winner Sagamix and a half-sister to Group 1 winner Sagacity and Shastye, the dam of Group 1 winner brothers Japan and Mogul.

On the National Hunt side, the foal Maxios from Quarry Hall Stud (112) has much to recommend him as his dam Kibara is a Sadler’s Wells winning sister to St Leger and Great Voltigeur Stakes Milan winner, now a top sire in the National Hunt.
Kibara is also a half-sister to Koora, the Group 3 winning dam of 2021 Queen’s Vase winner Kemari.
Cleaboy Stud and Coppice Farm delivers the only weanling in the catalog from the first harvest of Nirvana Du Berlais from Haras de la Hetraie (357).
The Prix Cambaceres Hurdle Grade 1 winner is a son of the brilliant National Hunt stallion Martaline. This April-born colt is the first foal out of Dream Of Storm, a three-time French hurdles winner and a Falco half-sister to last month’s Relkeel Hurdle winner Stormy Ireland, who was a Grade 1 winner over hurdles the last season for Willie Mullins.
National Hunt breeders looking to add a special mare to their broodmare group, or an ideal foundation mare for a breeder looking to establish their farm, will wait until the last few punches on Thursday evening for the opportunity to buy a very exciting young mare.
Bridal Knot (599D) is one of nine additional entries for sale and is a daughter of Knotted Midge’s sizzling Walk In The Park, making her a three-part sister to the enigmatic quadruple fighter Might Bite, whose victories for Nicky Henderson included an unforgettable hit on Whisper in the RSA Chase.
As well as the Gold Cup runner-up, Bridal Knot can count the Aintree and Punchestown Grade 1 Beat That winner as a half-brother.
The five-year-old is out of show mare Knotted Midge, a winning pointer, and is being offered by her trainer Henderson’s Seven Barrows operation as the final lot in the sale.
Knotted Midge has two-year-old and one-year-old brothers with Bridal Knot and a four-year-old Milanese sister with Beat That.

Godolphin’s project contains impeccably bred broodmares and breeding prospects, including Panegyric (580), who is a three-part Monsun sister to Group 1 Ultra winner and a half-sister to the dam of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Modern Games winner.
The 11-year-old is the dam of three runners out of three winners, including Listed placed Lackeen, by Shamardal, and is offered in foal to Cracksman.
Also among the project is Bergamasque (534)the dam of Coventry Stakes winner and Group 1 double Buratino. The Listed placed daughter of Kingmambo, out of a half-sister to Sadler’s Wells of Danehill Dancer, is offered in foal to Harry Angel.

Henry Beeby, managing director of the Goffs Group, expects strong trade based on such an extensive catalog.
“We are delighted to kick off 2022 at Kildare Paddocks with a February catalog of real depth and diversity,” he said.
“After the buoyant trade in foals and breeding stock recorded at Goffs’ November sale, demand for seats at the February sale was particularly strong and led to the sale being extended to three days. catalog should be very appealing to domestic and international buyers.”
